Creating connection with nature

Holistic Massage

Whatever the reasons you have come for a massage, we will always start with a consultation. No set routines, or one-size fits all approaches – every massage will be planned together depending on what you want from your massage that day.

Consultation

If you are a new client, your session will always start with the initial consultation. This can take 10 – 15 minutes and, after taking your contact details, we will discuss your medical history, general health and anything else you want discuss that you might feel useful to inform our session.

If we’ve worked together before, the consultation will be more of an informal ‘check in’ to find out how you are, whether anything has changed health-wise and what you want from the session. This usually takes 5 minutes or so.

We will then talk in more depth about ‘what’s brought you here today?’ – why you have come for massage and what you hope to achieve from it.

Together, we’ll agree a plan for the session that will best address your needs for that day.  These plans are never set in stone – sometimes we’ll find things that feel like they need attention as we go, and that’s fine – we can re-assess and change the session accordingly, always with your agreement.

Massage

Once we’ve agreed the initial plan, I’ll leave the room so that you can undress and get on the table under a drape,  and blanket if it’s a bit chilly or you just like the weight and warmth.  You are welcome to undress as much or as little as you like – from fully clothed to no-clothes and anything in between.  Most people choose to undress to their underwear, and many leave their socks on as they get chilly feet!

If you need assistance getting on and off the table then please let me know.  Having worked for several years as a health care assistant I have lots of experience in assisting people to move from standing to sitting or lying down.  We can always carry out a seated holistic massage or an Indian Head Massage if getting on a table is not possible for you. There are always options!

I will wait outside the room and when you call me to let me know you’re ready, I’ll re-enter the room.  If you like music to relax with then we can put some on, and we can discuss what oils you would like too.  I usually start with some holds to ground us into the massage and support you in settling onto the table, and I often do some work through the drapes first before starting to use oils.

I use a variety of techniques according to what you like and what I think might be useful.  Everything is down to your choice and I will regularly check in with you to make sure that the pressure is right and what we are doing feels beneficial:

  • Swedish massage techniques of effleurage and petrissage – long, flowing, kneading rolling strokes
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Percussion techniques such as tapping, chopping, cupping, brushing
  • Muscle Energy Technique and trigger point work
  • Energy holds
  • Fascial work

Aftercare

Once the massage has finished, I will leave the room and get you a glass of water if you’d like one, and I will wait outside while you ready yourself to get off the table and get dressed. Again, once you call to let me know you’re ready I’ll come back in.

We will then have a chat about how the massage was for you, and I will let you know of any observations I may have made, including recommendations for exercises or other things that I feel may be useful.  And if you like, we can book you in for your next session.  As I work very limited hours I do recommend this if you want to guarantee getting the appointment you want.
